Benchrates algorithm: Andreas Athanasiou's new 2-year contract is $1.4M more than his Value

The current Value of the forward is $2 873 452.

Andreas Athanasiou signed an extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. Per multiple sources, it is a two-year contract at a Cap Hit of $4.25M. According to Benchrates algorithm, this new Cap Hit is $1.4M more than the forward's current Value. This indicator is $2 873 452, and this is the best result for the 28-year-old player. Two years ago, his Value was $2 661 680, a year ago it increased to $2 751 655.

The 2022-23 season turned out to be ambiguous for the player. By March, his Value had fallen to $2.4M, as the Value chart shows. In the spring, the indicator dropped twice more significantly after unsuccessful games: by $61K and even by $76K. Moreover, in the second half of March, there was a long unsuccessful period for Athanasiou. The forward increased his Value only by $121 797, and it is only the 15th progress in the Blackhawks.

Today Athanasiou is the 3rd-best Blackhawks player after Taylor Hall and Josh Bailey (who will be bought out soon), and he ranks 336th in the NHL. The next two years will be very important for the winger. Either he proves the numbers in the contract, or his Value will not meet his Cap Hit and the next trade will be more modest.
